Sharon to Rwanda

What inspired me to start this blog is my upcoming 6 weeks trip in May to Rwanda, where our team of both UBC and Rwandan UNATEK students will be doing baseline nutritional research. I am so excited and humbled by this opportunity. It will be a time of personal growth, exploration into a possible career in Public Health/Community Health, learning in an international community health setting, and a test of our team's strengths and character.

Almost 2 years ago when I graduated with my Bachelors in Biology, I was quite lost after deciding that I would not pursue a career in the Health Sciences, although I had really enjoyed my courses. As such, I began to work full-time and decided to study HR, which was very different from Biology. I enjoyed and excelled in my courses. However, after 1.5 years, I really missed the Health Sciences. After much encouragement from friends, colleagues, and family, I decided to rethink a career in the Health Sector, and here I am today so abundantly blessed to have this opportunity to learn, explore, and experience.

Have you CHALLENGED yourself lately?

Rwanda is my first step in exploring the world around me. As time passes, my perceptions will change and so will what "R" represents. I hope you will be encouraged, challenged, and inspired as I blog my growth, experiences, and learnings.

  1. Sharon, thanks for your sharing. I hope this experience to "R" will help you soul-search and find your passion professionally, spiritually and personally.

Good luck as you prepare for this trip! Continue to keep your friends and family in touch, and I'll keep updated by reading this blog :)
